Built in 1896, The Gamble building began its life as the Gamble Institute, accommodating both a library and a technical school. The team at Donald Insall and Atkins Realis has been tasked with restoring and repairing this piece of St. Helen’s history. To produce a comprehensive record of the internals and externals of the listed building, ScanTech Digital was on hand to provide reality capture support.
Prior to works commencing, ScanTech Digital worked closely with Donald Insall to establish their surveying requirements. Through combining point cloud, drone photogrammetry and high-resolution 360° photography, ScanTech Digital provided a comprehensive survey enabling the project team to move the development forward.
Our team of surveyors we were able to provide a Revit model to various levels of detail as specified by the design team, by conducting the point cloud survey. The drone inspection and photogrammetry model of the externals allowed the design to understand and review the condition of the exterior and our Matterport tour provided instant access to review the internals and familiarise the project team with the site.

These deliverables provided the project team with the precise information that was essential for the project teams at Donald Insall and Atkins Realis to effectively undertake the restoration of The Gamble. The combination of modern software and hardware enabled ScanTech Digital to tailor our survey to meet the needs of the client and the complexity of retaining the heritage of the historic 127-year-old building.
